Nutrient Uptake and Removal Resources

This page lists materials developed by IPNI on Nutrient Uptake and Removal.

Crop Nutrient Removal Calculator (Web-based)
The multilingual, web-based tool provides estimates for crop nutrient removal for a broad, and continually expanding, list of field crops. Results are calculated based on user-selected yield goals and can be displayed in either metric or U.S./Imperial units. It is available in six languages including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese (Mandarin).

IPNI Estimates of Nutrient Uptake and Removal
This page lists estimates of nutrient uptake and removal for different crops grown in different countries of the world and represent what IPNI scientists believe to be the best estimates of typical values to date. They are updated as new data become available.

The Nutrient Use Geographic Information System (NuGIS) integrates multiple tabular and spatial datasets to create county-level and watershed-level estimates of nutrients applied to the soil in fertilizer and livestock manure, and nutrients removed by harvested agricultural crops.

Nutrient Uptake and Removal Database (NURD) for the United States
This online database gives you nutrient uptake and removal values for different crops in selected US states.

Regional Plant Food Uptake and Removal Cards for North America
These handy, pocket-size cards list nutrient needs of crops at various yield levels and the amounts removed in crop harvest across different North American regions.

Generalized Nutrient Cycles
A nutrient cycle is the movement and exchange of organic and inorganic matter back into the production of living matter. The process is regulated by food web pathways that decompose matter into mineral nutrients.
