SSSA Nitrogen Use Efficiency Conference

Decades of research have yielded a wealth of knowledge to effectively manage nitrogen and other nutrients in agriculture. Small scale studies have demonstrated that inadvertent N losses to the environment can be minimized without jeopardizing profitable crop yields. Improvements in crop and livestock breeding, fertilizer products, feed management, and several other technologies are continuing to offer additional tools. Despite this progress, N losses to the atmosphere as N20, N0 and NH3 and N losses to surface water and groundwater as N03- and DON continue at levels that pose serious environmental and human health concerns in many regions of the world. This workshop will bring together agronomists, biogeochemists, farmers, economists, sociologists, extension agents, educators, and policy experts from both public and private sectors to identify the major impediments to improved nutrient management and to make recommendations for overcoming those impediments.

International Plant Nutrition Colloquium 2013

The main theme of the 17th International Plant Nutrition Colloquium (IPNC) is "PLANT NUTRITION FOR NUTRIENT AND FOOD SECURITY". Ensuring food and nutrient security still represents a big global challenge. An adequate mineral nutrition offers excellent options and solutions to contribute to both food and nutrient security. There are several valuable examples in the past showing great contributions of plant nutrition research to food and nutrient security and thus well-being of human populations. It is hoped that the colloquium will be an excellent avenue for discussion, exchange and transfer of knowledge, as well as for creating new and fostering existing collaborations in the fields of plant mineral nutrition, plant molecular biology, plant genetics, agronomy, horticulture, ecology, environmental sciences and fertilizer use and production.
