High-yielding forages place high nutrient demands on the soil and can rapidly deplete nutrients such as phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). While investments in forage fertilization can be substantial, there are many benefits to a well balanced fertilizer program…avoiding stand decline, reducing diseases, improved stress tolerance, etc. An annual forage fertilizer program should be a part of the overall management system. Fall is an excellent time to apply part or all annual P and K needs.
