Education and transfer of technology continue as key elements in programs for developing markets in the region. Through an ongoing series of courses,INPOFOS is training seed industry personnel to relay the message of capitalizing on the full genetic potential through proper P and K management. Regional and national presentations to seed company agronomists and sales representatives, such as “Fertilizer Recommendations for High Yields in Corn, ”have been effective and well received.
The tremendous diversity of crops in the region opens the door to many other market development possibilities. For example, the soils of north central Mexico are affected by low levels of available P due to high amounts of exchangeable Ca and high pH. Many growers are not aware of the impact of these conditions and fail to properly fertilize corn, citrus, sugarcane, and other crops. In the southern states of Mexico, there are considerable interest and potential in increasing oil palm production. Coffee production in the region could also benefit greatly from increased P and K inputs. INPOFOS is working with regional grower organizations, fertilizer dealers, and field technicians to enhance P and K markets.
