Coffee
Description:Coffee (coffea robusta, coffea arabica)
A productive coffee garden producing 17 t of total dry matter and 3 t of clean coffee woul have an annual uptake requirement of 270-340 kg K per ha, of which 100-145 kg K would be removed with the crop. Heavy bearing branches can carry over 30 fruit for every pari of leaves (von Uexkull, 1879). A heavy fruit set is often preceded by a heavy drain on the K reserves in the plant. Leaves age prematurely, lose moisture, develop marginal scorch and subsequently drop off.
