Dr. Majumdar worked as a CSIR Research Associate at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (1994-95) after completion of his Ph.D. before joining Potash Research Institute of India (PRII) as a Soil Mineralogist in 1995. He worked on potassium supplying capacity of different Indian soils during his tenure at the PRII (1995-1999), with the additional responsibility of Associate Editor of the Journal of Potassium Research. Dr. Majumdar joined the Potash & Phosphate Institute of Canada-India Programme in 1999 as the Deputy Director of Eastern India. Dr. Majumdar was elevated to the position of Director, South Asia Program of International Plant Nutrition Institute (erstwhile Potash & Phosphate Institute of Canada) in 2009.

Dr. Majumdar’s current responsibilities include developing close collaboration with Universities, National Research Institutes and International Organizations in the region to generate science-based information on crop nutrition mananegement. Disseminating nutrient best management practices to target audiences for improving crop/cropping system productivity and farm profit in smallholder farming systems in South Asia is an important thrust area. Dr. Majumdar works closely with the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS), International Organizations and the Fertilizer Industry to develop scientific papers, technical bulletins, training aids, and fertilizer decision support tools for different stakeholder groups to meet the educational mandates of IPNI.
