2010 Great Plains Soil Fertility Conference

Graduate Student Travel Award

Deadline: December 31, 2009

Graduate Student Travel Awards supported by industry will be available to one graduate student from each Great Plains University participating in the Conference. The amount of the awards (minimum $200) will vary depending on the amount of funds received and distance traveled to attend the Conference. If you know of a graduate student interested in attending, please submit his/her name to your University Department for final selection and nomination. Procedures for applying are on page 2 of this letter.

Any student who attends the conference and presents a poster will be eligible for the Student Poster Award given to the top three student posters at the conference. Checks in the amount of $250 for 1st place, $150 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd place will be given.

Purpose: To encourage graduate student participation in the Great Plains Soil Fertility Conference. The Travel Awards are supported by industry. Although the amount of donations vary, we are committed to providing a minimum of $200 cash to one student nominated by each of the Great Plains Universities participating in this Conference. If donations are adequate, the amount of each award will be increased. The Travel Award includes complimentary registration at the Conference.

Selection: Each University should select an individual and submit the final nomination to Clain Jones by December 31, 2009. The individual nominated should be focusing his/her graduate program in the area of soil fertility, plant nutrition, soil chemistry, or crop production. The exact fit of the graduate student to these categories will be left to the discretion of the University. It is mandatory that the student 1) present a poster, 2) provide a paper for the proceedings, and 3) attend the entire Conference to receive the Travel Award.

Procedure: The nomination should be accompanied by a short paragraph providing some information on the student, their graduate program, academic achievements, and the individual with whom the student is working.

Checks and recognition: Will be presented at the conference awards luncheon on Tuesday.
