Litchi is an important fruit crop of West Bengal. There exist major growth potential in area expansion and yield. The early harvesting of Litchi, as compared to other states, is an advantage and provides opportunity for export oriented cultivation. But yield of litchi in West Bengal is often low and variable due to poor flowering or failure of fruit set. Preliminary experiments suggested that shoot dormancy in autumn and winter is one of the important factor for sustainable litchi production. The beneficial role of K on winter dormancy is not very clear and needs experimentation. Besides, identification of optimum P and K levels, for sustainable high yield and quality, is utmost important for export oriented production of litchi.
