Study on the Correlation between ASI and Routine Method for Soil Available Nutrients Analysis
The systematic approach for soil fertility evaluation (ASI method) was introduced into China by IPNI China Program, and a testing laboratory for soil and plant analysis on the basis of ASI method was established at early 1990s in Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). Since this approach was introduced, most of soil samples from IPNI cooperative research and demonstration projects in China are tested by the cooperative laboratory located in Beijing.
Since the last 2 decades, a large number of field trials have been conducted in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions all over China through PPI/PPIC China Program network. So far more than 7,000 field trials were conducted and 30,000 soil samples were tested. Results showed that, the content of soil available P, K, and Zn by ASI method was positively correlated to crop’s yields. So a whole system of soil testing and fertilization recommendation techniques was gradually established and played good role in fertilizing recommendation. By revision and improvement in the past years, ASI method has its own advantage on speedy, effective and accurate, and plays an active role in comprehensive evaluation of soil nutrients status and the extension of balanced fertilization technology.
At present, in most agricultural university and academic institute of China, the routine method recommended by Soil Science Society of China is still the usual method for soil available nutrients analysis. To use ASI method more widely, find a rational correlation between the 2 methods is needed. Therefore, the Plant Protection & Soil and Fertilizer Institute of Hubei implemented this project since 2006. |
