    Constraints

Economic development in Central Vietnam is limited by difficult climate conditions, poor soils, low living standards (compared with South and North Vietnam). Agricultural developments here are limited by low soil fertility and very high soil pH.

With the low living standards, farmers apply as much fertilizers as they can buy at the market. However, they still do not practice balanced fertilizer application. In particular, P and K fertilizers are rarely used as their effect on growth is not seen immediately.
