Effectiveness of potash on cotton in north Jiangsu, 1996
Two years of experimental field trials and demonstration plots have shown farmers of North Jiangsu that good rates of P and K are needed to grow high yielding cotton. A direct result of these projects has been a large increase in K consumption from 5 t/yr in 1993 to 4,000 t/yr in 1995. In this same time period the average cotton yield in Xinyuan township, Siyang county, increased from 495 to 720 kg lint/ha. Farmers of north Jiangsu now commonly apply 85 kg K2O/ha on their 13,400 ha of cotton land. A nationwide cotton nutrition blitz is planned to promote this increased production potential. NANJING-07
