Within-field variability in soil test phosphorus (P) levels can be very high. Appropriate combinations of seed-placed and side-banded P fertilizer increase corn yields, but their optimum proportion depends on soil test P and other factors. This study was conducted to determine whether the variability of soil test P in a field could justify variable management of applied P.
