Project Details:

This project conducted by S. Paulo State Agronomic Institute researchers is partially supported by funds from ANDA and IPNI. It intends to design response curves for N and K in sugarcane ratoons harvested without burning in different production environments in S. Paulo State in order to update N & K fertilizer recommendation for ratoons. A web of 15 experiments covering the different production environments will be installed in S. Paulo State. Each experiment, in factorial scheme will deal with 4 doses of nitrogen (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg/ha of N) and 4 doses of potassium ( 0, 70, 140 e 210 kg/ha de K2O). Sources of N will be ammonium nitrate and of K will be potassium chloride.

The following parameters will be evaluated: soil chemical analysis before application of fertilizers and after harvest; sugarcane stubble will be collected and analyzed for macronutrients and for curve of decomposition along the time; foliar analysis - with plants sampled 6 months before harvest; productiviy and quality (fiber, purity, pol, reducing sugars).

During 2006, the project was installed in 16 locations (one more site than originally proposed). Harvest will concentrate mostly in the second semester of 2007.
