ARS research supported by PPI-FAR (FAR project no. TX-51F) in the Rio Grande Valley has been highlighted in the most recent issue of the ARS Agricultural Research Magazine. The work and article demonstrate the strong relationship between crop nutrient (K and Ca) input and muskmelon quality... including phytonutrient content. "Consumers will get not only a better tasting, sweeter melon, but one that can help boost their intake of beta-carotene and vitamin C,” says Dr. Gene Lester, the project's principle investigator.
