Interpretive Summaries:
Potassium fertilizer efficiency for wheat and rapeseed in Qinghai, 1999
Qinghai is a western province in China that is largely considered to have high K soils; therefore, not needing K application. This research established one wheat and one rapeseed trial in order to substantiate this belief.
The two separate trials showed no response to applied K in wheat; however, rapeseed yield increased from 3 to 3.2 kg/ha when K2O application was increased from 30 to 90 kg/ha. One kg K2O application increased rapeseed yield by 2.5 kg.
Potash applications will be needed in the future as natural soil K in Qinghai province is depleted. It is currently estimated that 133,000 ha of potentially low K soils exist in Qinghai, although this estimate has not been verified. Field inspections were held to make leaders aware that K application in some Qinghai soils is needed now. QINGHAI-03
